About Martin Gitlin
Marty was a class clown and Cleveland sports fan as a child who has put both to good use as an adult. He transformed his love for breakfast cereals into the highly acclaimed Great American Cereal Book (Harry Abrams, 2012). He has now taken his passion for cartoons and turned it into A Celebration of Animation: The 100 Greatest Cartoon Characters in Television History. And he has translated his zeal for baseball into The Ultimate Cleveland Indians Time Machine Book.
He has authored more than 150 books since 2006. He has gained increased notoriety for his sports and pop culture trade books in recent years, including The Greatest Sitcoms of All-Time (Globe Pequot, 2013), Powerful Moments in Sports: The Most Significant Sporting Events in American History (Rowman and Littlefield, 2017) and The 100 Greatest American Athletes (Rowman and Littlefield, 2018).
Marty won more than 45 writing awards as a newspaper journalist from 1991 to 2002, including first place for general excellence from the Associated Press. That organization also selected him as one of the top four feature writers in Ohio.
